Married, Successful, Childfree, and Happy

I knew early in life I did not want to be a young mother. I wanted to be educated and free to take risks in life and in my career. I spent most of my twenties doing just that; getting educated, gaining valuable work experience, and climbing the corporate ladder.

When I turned 30 I decided I had enough of the 50+ hour work weeks, weekend, and holdiday work and needed to slow down and get some balance into my life.

At 32 I am looking to embark on the next chapter of my life. One that will help me achieve balance, develop meaningful relationships, and discover the world through art, travel, and religion all with my wonderful husband.

I'm learning there is so much more to life than working and money.

I intend to enjoy life now and not when I'm too exhausted, old, and fragile to do so.

Here is an intersting article.

The Endless "To Do List"

A Facebook friend posted this on her wall. "Is looking to sell half of my to do list." Does this sound like something you would like to do?

Guilty! I would sell off my to do list to the lowest offer. Heck I'd give my list away if someone would take it!

At the office I have two completely filled legal note pads with pages of tasks, meeting notes, and things to do.This is in addition to the notes, appointments, meetings, and tasks already recorded in Outlook and on my Blackberry.

Then there is my personal planner, my online personal calendar, and my personal to do, want to do, could do, should do, need to do, and what I do if I didn't have so much to do!

The key to tackling this beast is time managment. I urge anyone who is becoming overwhelmed by your endless list of things to do to take a course on time management. It may save your sanity!

Here are some actions I have taken to help me mange my time:

  • Distinguish Urgent from Important
  • Prioritize to do lists, memos, voicemails, and emails
  • Plan and Organize
  • Schedule your own "prime time" of the day or night for maximum accomplishment
  • Dont be afriad to say NO
  • Delegate
  • Work on one task at a time
Have some tips for those trying to manage an endless to do list?

Fitting Fitness Into Your Busy Life

Greetings career women!
What actions are you taking to add physical fitness into your busy work schedule? Have you made a conscious decision to work in fitness between meetings, cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children?
As a career woman I found it very hard to keep a fitness routine. Working 50+ hour weeks didn’t leave much time for exercise. I would be on a fitness plan for a few weeks then fall off because I got too busy with work.
This year I was determined to get on a path to getting fit and committing to staying fit. I started out running, lifting weights, and engaging in workout DVDs such as Insanity. These routines were too easy to abandon when my work schedule got hectic. I needed something that would tap into my athletic capabilities and my desire for competition, so I started taking tennis lessons. Signing up for tennis lessons committed me to a minimum of 2 hours a week completing tennis drills. As I moved from beginner to advanced beginner the tennis bug hit me and I started training for my first tennis tournament. My tennis workout went from 2 hours a week to 5 then 10 hours a week.
I’ve been so engaged that I don’t think twice about the decision to stay late at work or go to tennis practice. In fact, I have been on a mission to work smarter not harder. The work that normally took 50 + hours can now be done in 40-50 hours during most non-peak times of the year.
If you have a story about how you stay fit please share it with us.
